Question

A solid sphere rolls without slipping along the track.the sphere starts from rest from a height H above the bottom of a loop of radiur R which is much larger than the radiur of the sphere 'r'.the min.value of H for the sphere to complete the loop ..??

Read 1 Solution.

  1. Apply Law of conservation of energy.
  2. Subtract radius of sphere from Radius of Loop at the highest point of loop while calculating Potential Energy
  3. At the highest point Normal reaction will be 0. ( centripetal force= mg+0)
  4. Sphere's Rotational energy needs to be included at the highest point. ( I/2*I^2)). This is over and above Kinetic Energy.
