Question

A solid sphere rolls without slipping along the track.the sphere starts from rest from a height H above the bottom of a loop of radiur R which is much larger than the radiur of the sphere 'r'.the min.value of H for the sphere to complete the loop ..??

Read 1 Solution.

  1. Apply law of  conservation  of energy except that the Radius of sphere has to be subtracted from the Radius of the Loop i.e use  (R-r) while writing Radius of the loop and use R-r when calculating height to find PE at the highest point of loop
  2. At the highest point the Normal reaction should be taken 0 because that is the condiion for "just" completing the loop
  3. In normal questions the Kinetic energy is taken. In this question at the highest point the Kinetic Energy is  both Rotational and Translatory . I/2 Iw^2+I/1mv^2.
  4. Take v=wr as it rolls without slipping.
