Question

When a particle is thrown vertically upwards, its velocity at one third of its maximum height is 10√2 m/s. The maximum height attained by it is......

Joshi sir comment

remaining height = 2h/3

so 0= (10√2)- 2g(2h/3)

solve

Read 1 Solution.

We know that

                 at maximun height, velocity is zero

Therefore, u2 - 2gh = 0

                  u2= 2gh  ........ (1)

Given that u= 10 root 2 m/s

                 h=h/3

substitute in (1)

               (10 root 2 )= 2g(h/3)

               100 (2) = 2g(h/3)

                200 = 2(10)(h/3)              since g = 10m/s^2

               600 = 20h

                h = 30 m

 THEREFORE THE MAXIMUM HEIGHT IS   30m
