There are three cases :-
CASE 1)When we know only about capacitance (C) and potential difference (V), then energy stored is given by,
E = 1/2*CV2
CASE 2)When we only capacitance (C) and charge stored in capacitor (q), then energy stored is given by,
E = 1/2*q/C2
CASE 3)When we know only potential difference (V) and charge stored in capacitor (q), then energy stored is given by
E = 1/2*qV
